Curator of European Art Dr. Tom Loughman considers the diverse motivations and forms of devotional imagery represented by works in the Museum's collection of European art, as well as those in current temporary exhibitions of New Mexican retablos and sacred manuscripts.

Tuesday, January 15, 7pmDr. Paul Wegner, professor of Old Testament at Phoenix Seminary, discusses the literary history of the Bible, its various translations and early printed history.

WORKSHOPS
From Inspiration to Reality: Tracing the Artistic Process
Thursdays, February 7, 21, March 6, 20 & April 3, 1pm – 3pmThis five-session workshop explores the artistic process from different points of view. Learn about the physical construction of works of art in various media, as well as the evolution of the status of the artist from artisans to free-thinkers to innovators. Visit Illuminated Manuscripts and Masterpiece Replayed to consider how artists’ ideas evolve and change. Finally, work with a professional art educator to bring an original work of art from inspiration to preparation to completion. This program for adults aged 50+ meets at both the ASU West campus and the Museum. Registration is limited.

The Name of the Rose

The two investigate mysterious deaths at an abbey and explore its medieval library and manuscript collections as they pursue the killer. Runtime: 130 minutes.
